We decided to go on an outing before the Barrons left Leeds. The Royal Armouries Museum is a national museum which displays the National Collection of Arms and Armour. It is situated along a huge canal that offer covered boats to paying guests. It was extremely cold outside, so we didn't opt for the boat ride, but we were very comfortable inside the building.

The Sabers (swords) were very intricately carved and designed to suit the taste or money of its owner. They were decorated with jewels, like rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. They were actually used in battles, and then preserved by families as heirlooms.

The Water Fowling, like duck or geese hunting in the marshes, display showed how long, heavy guns were used by the hunters. Since the guns were extremely heavy and had long barrels, about 6-7 feet, they had to be mounted on an apparatus in the dugout boats. The hunter had to lay on his stomach, use short paddles to steer the boat, look down the barrel, and shot his prey. That's not my idea of a good time.

The day we went to the Royal Armouries the children were on holiday so the museum had a WILD WEST day. They did a great job going back in US history and it made David and me feel right at home.
